Yes, by communities that still cross the deep desert by traditional means — camel herders, certain nomadic groups, and Bhopa singers who maintain the oral tradition. Modern roads and vehicles have reduced exposure, but among those who know the deep Thar, the Dund is as real as sandstorms.
▶Can the Dund be destroyed or exorcised?
Not in the traditional sense. Individual Dund can be released by finding the body of the traveler who became the spirit and performing cremation rites — but since these bodies are often buried under sand and never found, this is rarely possible. Stone cairns built at death sites serve as symbolic cremation points. The Dund is not a problem to be solved. It is a feature of the desert to be navigated.
